A CLOSER LOOK
Janathel Shaw in conversation with Neville Barbour during the inaugural A Closer Look artist talk in October 2025.
A Closer Look is a new artist talk program at Touchstone Gallery that aims to create opportunities for viewers to learn more about DMV artists of African descent and provide them with tools to revisit art with intent.
The objectives of the program are to:
Create a space for creatives and art enthusiasts to converse, empathize, and learn from one another—helping to close the gap between artists and their audience.
Support creative expression and promote art education by fostering a communal space for art appreciation.
A Closer Look is a dynamic program that grants creative freedom to participating artists and curators. Each event may take the form of a traditional artist talk, a workshop, a lecture, or a panel discussion.
Through the A Closer Look program series, TFA will also support several small guest exhibitions at Touchstone Gallery throughout 2026 as part of Touchstone@50.
